I grew up in Chicago, and joined Actors' Equity in 1979 when

a musical at Wisdom Bridge

moved downtown to

The Drury Lane.

I moved to New York in 1981.

I was cast in my first Broadway show about six weeks later.

The show closed

the day after it opened.

Now, every opening night

I remember the lesson I learned

back in 1981 ...

Don't take anything for granted.
